How Much can you receive through DWP Cold Payment?

Under the Cold Weather Payment, the DWP offers £25 for each of seven consecutive days of extremely cold weather between the period 01 Nov 2024 and 31 March 2025. The UK residents will receive the cold weather payment automatically.

The UK residence will receive the payment in the same way he/she receives the other benefit needed to receive the Cold weather payment. The payment will help you cover the energy cost that you may have incurred to survive the cold weather.

The Cold weather payment is not a winter fuel payment, it’s different as it depends on the cold weather in the given period and helps the people who already receive certain benefits to help them cover their expenses to cover the additional energy cost.

How and When Can You Expect the Cold Weather Payment?

According to the DWP, the cold weather payment is an automatic payment that will be made to the qualified benefits recipients when their regions experience a drop in the temperature. However, if you have a child under 5 or a baby that lives with you or comes to live with you need to apply for the cold weather payment.

People with a child under 5 or a baby need to contact Jobcentre Plus when they receive the income-based JSA, income support, or income-related ESA. You will need to inform the child about Jobcentre Plus with proper evidence to receive the payment to their respective account.

According to the DWP, the department will process the cold weather payment within 14 business days when your area experiences cold weather during the period 01 Nov 2024 and 31 Mar 2025 for more than seven consecutive days. The DWP will process the payment into your bank or building society account for the 02 Jan to 09 Jan 2025 by the end of Jan 2025.

What to do if you do not receive the Cold Weather Payment?

If your area is entitled to the cold weather payment and you are also eligible for the payment but did not receive the payment, you must take the following action:

  • You must call the Jobcentre Plus or Pension Service if you receive any of the benefits related to these and inquire about the cold weather payment disbursement.
  • If you receive the Universal Credit, you can sign into your Universal Credit account and write a note to the journal to inquire about the payment or you can call the Universal Credit helpline at 0800 328 5644.

The DWP has announced the cold weather payment for 02 Jan to 09 Jan 2025, the UK residents from the 18 postcodes will receive the upcoming payment soon.
