UPS USPS Package Delivery Changes: Check all the details about it!

The beginning of this year is a sign of the end of the delivery contract for United Parcel Service (UPS) SurePost, according to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which delineates UPS delivery drivers.

Prior to the agreement expiration date the U.S. Postal Service will finish the final miles of delivery for UPS deliveries. In the United States, the Postal Service is the one and only carrier that can deliver to post office boxes, Navy fleets as well as Army posts.

But after the end of this agreement and because of the UPS USPS Package Delivery Changes, these customers need to send their packages directly to a United States location or directly to their address.

How can you get your package after UPS USPS Package Delivery Changes?

After the UPS and USPS’s contract expire, individuals and businesses in the United States will be able to get their SurePost packages at least one day earlier. It is because the transit time is going to be reduced from 2-7 days to 2-6 days.

According to Supply Chain Dive, the SurePost service will no longer be provided to those who are residing in the U.S. Territories, Puerto Rico, Alaska, Hawaii. It is also highlighted that the SurePost service will not be provided for Military APO-FPO deliveries.

But keep in mind that Other UPS primary delivery services like Second Day Air, Next Day Air and Ground will remain available for individuals who are living in the United States Territories, Puerto Rico, Alaska as well as Hawaii.

Consumers who have SurePost packages in shipment that they can expect to be delivered to a PO box will be able to  redirect them to a street address after logging in for UPS MyChoice.

What will be the effect of the end of contract for UPS drivers?

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), a union which is responsible for representing UPS delivery drivers, announced the negotiated service agreement’s end in a Facebook post about a week ago.

According to that post, after the end of contract, drivers will be able to view an enhancement in work volume that can offer more delivery chances and approach to overtime for rank and file UPS drivers.

It is also stated that because of the millions of SurePost packages that are coming back on UPS trucks, more than thousands of new package car driver jobs opportunities will be developed.

USPS statement about the contract’s expiration and new agreement

According to the statement of Supply Chain Drive, a USPS individual stated that “Some businesses talked about new agreements or contracts with us, but some did not yet.”

He further said that, Past agreements failed to satisfy the operational and financial realities, the progress of the postal network, or the improvement to our portfolio of product offerings. USPS had  signed a contract with FedEx just for the domestic air transportation services, but it ended on September 29, 2024.

FedEx confirmed in a statement in March 2024 that FedEx and the U.S Postal Service had a long and productive relationship with each other for more than 20 years. With the passage of time, our respective plans have changed as we are modifying our networks, operations and goals for the future.
